Mrs. Tunner is a woman living in hardship due to her and spouse not being able to work because of health reasons. The family is only able to get by with the limited funds that the husband receives through disability. With limited recourses, she has to make a budget in order to make the most out the aid. She challenged with the burden of making choices between paying the utility bills or food. There is also emphasizes these issues are not a small matter, but a big concern she faces on an everyday basis. As a mother, she has to make sure that her children are feed, and she stretches every dollar by buying frozen junk food. These foods have become so common and popular because they are an easy and cheap meal that can feed an entire family.
However, there is a consequence to eating these types of food because they contain unnecessary preservatives, and they do not have nutritional value. With that being said nutritional deficiency is causing a domino effect of many health problem that are preventable. Some of the major health problems that the population is facing across that the US today are obesity, diabetes and hypertension. These issues are so common now and are still on the rise. There is a partial truth to inequity making many people chose inexpensive unhealthier food. When junk food and whole food are eaten they satisfy the need to eat and cease hunger. Nevertheless, only one of them creates health issues. Many people consume foods without thinking what they just eaten. 1. I enjoyed your post. I agree that eating healthy and fresh foods is more expensive than processed and packaged foods. However, I try to think long term because it may cost more to eat well now, but it will save you thousands on medical expense down the road. Ever since my husband and I decided to eat mostly organic and gluten free we definitely noticed there's a higher cost, however, we really do feel better! I eat a bowl of organic salad every day and I have to say that my energy level is awesome and my husband has less GI issues since we stop all gluten foods. I think so many people are stuck on "it's so expensive to eat well," instead let's try and think if we don't choose healthy foods now, it will be MORE expensive down the road.

  2. Situations like these are truly heartbreaking to read about, knowing that many families across the world are forced to eat unhealthy foods simply because they have no resources. People with low incomes are not given enough to live a healthy lifestyle, they are in a constant rush trying to find the quickest ways to fill themselves up unknowing of the consequences their bodies may go through. It is unfortunate that they lack the privilege of acquiring healthier meals; it is as if they are caught in a constant loop of economic inequality. (Low income = unhealthy food = higher medical bills = low income)
